PRESENTATION by SKAWENNATI FRAGNITO, ANDREW FORSTER and ISABELLE BERNIER We are proud to announce that RASHID & ROSETTA is part of the HTMlles Festival of Media Art + Digital Culture 2010.
This international festival is organized in Montreal by Studio XX. The ninth edition takes place from November 13 to 20
under the theme <home> </land> PROGRAM 2009: META WIRED WOMEN SALON 08: HEBA FARID Heba Farid’s presentation will mainly focus on two topics: her artwork, and her perceptions of the Cairo art scene. In the last decade, the Cairo contemporary art scene has undergone important changes, with the emergence of a new generation of artists and curators, and the impact of innovative galleries and several major collective events such as PhotoCairo. Heba Farid has been actively involved, notably as a founding Board member, and current Chair, of the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC – www.ciccairo.com), an artist-run centre dedicated to the visual image. She will also discuss her own personal artwork and its progression from her beginnings in 1990 at MAWA in Winnipeg, where she lived for many years, to her activities in Cairo and internationally in 2009. The work will show the visual, installation, multi-media and research approaches she uses. The presentation will also shed some light on "new media" and how it relates to Egypt and the region. It will be followed by a question/discussion period with the audience. The talk will be in English, French and Arabic. For more information about Heba Farid, click here. MONTREAL LAUNCH OF RASHID & ROSETTA Co-hosted by OBORO and STUDIO XX, the evening will include an introduction to the project by curators Isabelle Bernier and Salah D. Hassan, followed by presentations of individual web artworks by four of the artists: Skawennati Fragnito, Andrew Forster, Isabelle Bernier and Heba Farid. Ms. Farid will be coming from Cairo, Egypt, for the occasion, and will also give a talk the next Saturday (Nov. 28, 2009) at Studio XX. Hors-d'oeuvres and drinks will be available. In French, English and Arabic. A celebration of creative, collaborative, border-crossing, polyglot cyberspace! Back to top |
